Jake Mazur was a 6 foot-tall, 14-year-old at Little Elm Junior High. He was a gregarious and popular student who enjoyed playing football and baseball, fishing, horseback riding and anything outdoors. He was a proud uncle and a practical jokester. Most of all, he was loved by his family and friends.
Jake and his father were enjoying a Father's Day fishing trip on Lake Fork on June 20, 1994. Caught off guard by a sudden storm, they began wrapping up their day when Jake was struck by a bolt of lightning. He was flown on a CareFlite helicopter to Children's Hospital in Dallas, where he remained on life-support for three days before the family made the difficult decision to let him go.
After Jake's death, the family established the Jake Mazur Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded $1,000 to a graduating senior at Little Elm High School.
